How to export your customer chats
The messenger hands you the export itself, for free and with nobody in between. Below is where to find it in each of the three apps and what to watch out for. A dmhive parse takes Instagram and Telegram exports, and text alone is enough: photos and video are dropped while the archive is read, and without them it weighs tens of times less.
Open account settings and find the section about your data: the item is called «Download your information». Choose messages only and the JSON format: an HTML export cannot be parsed. Set the widest period available. The archive is not ready instantly, a link arrives by email, usually within a day. The dashboard accepts a zip up to 300 MB: photos are dropped from the archive before upload, so a full export usually fits. Export from the account you actually answer customers in.
The export is done one conversation at a time: open the chat, the menu in the top right corner, «More», «Export chat». When asked about attachments choose «Without media»: with them the archive is enormous. You get a text file. A dmhive parse does not read that format yet: for now it takes Instagram and Telegram exports.
The export lives in the desktop app, the mobile one does not have it. Open the chat, the menu, «Export chat history», the JSON format, attachments unchecked. Everything at once can be exported through settings and «Export Telegram data», but the file will be noticeably larger.
In the analysis of a small shop's account there were 77 conversations and about one thousand seven hundred messages over four months, and the repeating questions showed right away: a product question came up in 84 per cent of business conversations, that is, the ones where the customer and the shop actually exchanged messages. The more chats, the fuller the flow. With few conversations it comes out shorter and part of the answers has to be written by hand.
We read text only. Phone numbers, addresses and names are replaced with anonymised placeholders before the text reaches a language model. The archive itself is kept for no longer than 7 days: it is used to build the bot and to check analysis quality, then deleted; in the demo that needs no signup it is deleted right after the session. The main storage is in Germany.
What people usually ask
Does the export have to come from the messenger the bot will run in?
No. Customers ask the same things whatever the app: price, availability, delivery, timing. A bot built from Instagram chats runs happily in Telegram, and the other way round.
The archive holds private conversations, not only work ones. Is that a problem?
Upload only what relates to the business if the app lets you pick chats. If it does not, the parse still looks for repeating business questions, and personal data is stripped from the text before analysis. The rule is simple though: the less irrelevant material you upload, the better.
The archive is huge, hundreds of megabytes. What now?
Almost all of that weight is photos and video. Rebuild the export without attachments and a few megabytes remain. In Instagram it is enough to select messages only, in WhatsApp and Telegram to decline media during export.
Can I see the result without exporting anything?
Yes. The demo parse is open in full and needs no signup: it holds the real chats of a small shop, the flow built from them, the price list, the knowledge base and the dialogue simulator.

The parse takes minutes. While early access lasts, we build the first bots by hand and for free.
